Thanks for this story, Mac. You've mentioned Kate a few times, and I knew that she was important to you, so it's good to get some details.
But what else? What happened with Kate after the 8th grade? Where is she now? Did you ever meet any of her girlfriends? Does she have a steady? Is she still poor?.
Aunt Kate moved to Sebastopol, CA sometime during my junior high school days. She bought and remodeled a house with her partner Joan (they're not together anymore). Joan is also an amazing, independant, woman. Together, Joan and Kate lived an alternative lifestyle in many ways. They ate 100% organic and vegan, they relied strictly on homeopathy for their medical needs, they channeled the energy of crystals, and worshipped "The Goddess." All of their unique characteristics probably drove Kate and the rest of the family apart, but for some reason, they pulled me closer. I love Kate; she taught me tolerance, independance, how to see and accept other points of view.
We had a great weekend. St. Paul Rodeo on Friday with Kris and J.D., Joel and Aimee. Fireworks and barbecue followed. I ate too much, played games with Harrison and Emma and the adults as well. Saturday night, we went to see Mama Mia with Kris and J.D., Jeremy and Jennifer. It was a great show. I didn't know what to expect, but it was a blast. Great dancing, great singing, great stage. We followed the show with a trip to Southpark for some wonderful Paella and wine.
Pam and I also starting building the long awaited pergola. Pictures will be posted soon.
