For Mother's Day we took some family portraits. I am thrilled with the way they turned out!

We spent the last two nights at Alderbrook Resort in Union, WA on the Hood Canal. Although only an hour from our house, Alderbrook made us feel like we were on vacation. We were able to get in some much needed family time before Bryan deploys and I even made a trip to the spa for a hot stone massage.
Mostly, we sat on our balcony and enjoyed the view.

We also spent a lot of time in the pool with Brooke. She loves the water and her new swim toy.

Today was the Color Casing Ceremony for Bryan's Squadron. The ceremony involves folding up and encasing the Squadron and Troop flags to be sent to Iraq where they will be uncased upon the Squadron's arrival.

It was a short ceremony, but it hit home that this deployment is really happening. No more denying it. We are trying to spend as much family time together as possible, but I constantly think about the separation. The thought of Bryan being apart from Brooke (and me) for more than a year just breaks my heart. Her face lights up every time he comes home and usually she gives a little squeal of delight.

Last weekend, we went down to Salem to visit the Smiths. While we were there, we attended the all you could eat chocolate buffet to benefit the American Cancer Society. We all had a good time and stuffed ourselves sick with chocolate cake, truffles, brownies, etc.

While at home, we dressed Brooke and Liam in matching outfits and let them get acquainted.

Not only does my mom do a horrible job getting food into my mouth,

she also has problems putting my clothes on!

Editor's note: Prunes are just horrible and messy food no matter who feeds them to baby.
Last weekend Grammy Barb came to visit in between a hiking trip around Portland and a visit to see my sister and her family. On Saturday, we went out hiking. We thought we were going to the Staircase area of Olympic National Park, but it was closed due to wildfires last summer. So, we ended up hiking the Hoodsport Trail. It was a shorter hike than we had planned, but the scenery was beautiful and it turned out to be just the right length for Brooke.

We took Brooke on her first outing in the hiking backpack. She enjoyed the attention I gave her while she looked out on the world.

But, the best part of all was the rain cover, which just happened to be perfect for licking. Doesn't she look like she could be cast in the Christmas Story movie?

Thanks to Grandpa Jeb and Grandma Sue, Brooke has received a whole wardrobe of Harley clothing. What a shame that her Daddy owns a BMW motorcycle!

These days, Brooke is learning more and more new tricks. She can sit up unassisted - until she gets excited and throws herself backwards. She has also learned how to pucker her lips and blow out, making a trumpet-like noise. And, after weeks of trying, she can now successfully put her toes in her mouth. But the biggest development of all is rolling over. Brooke has been able to roll all the way over for a few weeks now. In that time she has really perfected getting herself where she wants to go.

Under the coffee table.

Under the pack 'n play.
