Mt. Rainier

We had a remarkably sunny Fall day on Wednesday, so we took an afternoon trip up to Mt. Rainier National Park to show Grandma Sue and Auntie Teri the sights. The drive out was beautiful. Brooke skipped her afternoon nap in the car, so we ended up with a few major crying episodes on the drive up. But, we were able to see all the sights we wanted to and thankfully Brooke slept almost the whole way home.

Besides climbing, playing with the car shade was the best part of the day for Brooke!

Grandma's Visit

Last week, Grandma Sue and Auntie Teri came to visit. Grandma made sure that she got lots of pictures of Brooke to take home with her. Here are a few of the best:

On the move...

Brooke took her first steps at the beginning of September, but it wasn't until a few days ago that she started walking as her primary way to get around. Now, she only crawls if there are things on the floor that trip her when she is walking. Sometimes she looks a bit like the Scarecrow - very wobbly on her feet. And, she usually does a hail Mary lunge when she gets within a few steps of whatever she is walking to. It's only back-fired on her a few times - like when her weight knocked the chair over and they both went down!

Friends

For such a young girl, Brooke has made many friends in the neighborhood. There are several 4 to 7 year old girls in our neighborhood and they all love Brooke. During the summer, I swapped babysitting with one neighbor. Brooke became really fond of 7 year old Zoe. She still gets very excited every time we see Zoe at the park. It's too bad summer had to end!

Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, OR

Last week, Brooke and I went to Umpqua Lighthouse State Park for four nights with the Proffitt side of our family. Between the eight of us, we had a deluxe yurt and a rustic cabin. Uncle Roger shared the cabin with us. I think he was surprised at how much noise Brooke makes each night....he's just lucky he didn't have to get up with her at 6am every day!

Pam and Mac graciously did all the cooking. Of course, I wouldn't have been much help as I was constantly chasing after Brooke. Camping with a crawling baby is not easy - even when it's only pseudo camping!

We did have a great time at the beach and on the dunes. Brooke loves the sand and I loved that I could just turn her loose on the dunes.
